‘Giant Little Ones’ gets bogged down in teen angst
From the nation that gave us “Degrassi” comes one other overwrought teen drama known as “Large Little Ones.”
The Canadian flick turns highschool into hell: It’s acquired breakups, coming-out traumas, rape, destroyed friendships and loads of bodily violence. It’s the anti-“Love, Simon.”
This deeply miserable movie is about two greatest buddies — Franky and Ballas — who wind up in mattress collectively after an evening of heavy ingesting. When the fellows get up, Franky (Josh Wiggins) sees it as an harmless act that’s value a dialog; Ballas (Darren Mann) spirals uncontrolled, spreading nasty hallway rumors to coddle his masculine satisfaction.
That the film goes down that street, moderately than changing into the same old sugary romance, is refreshing. Each boys are good, and Kyle MacLachlan provides a young flip as Franky’s homosexual dad. However the sheer quantity of points shoved in right here is overpowering.
If the whole lot’s a complete drag from begin to end, there’s nothing value preventing for.
