What Is the Value of Pupil Mortgage Debt to Black Households?

Not all pupil mortgage debt is created equal.  Consultants say {that a} larger proportion of African American college students borrow as a way to attain their school levels, says Dr. Brian Bridges, United Negro School Fund’s (UNCF) Vice-president of analysis and member engagement. “They take out larger quantities, they take out a wider vary of loans — so, not simply federal loans, but in addition personal loans and state-based loans.” RELATED: BET NEWS SPECIAL: Young, Gifted & Broke Right here’s a snapshot of the devastating impression on Black households: In 2016 alone, about 85 % of Black graduates took on debt to finance their undergraduate levels.
